Sewing with Knits with Cassie Bryant
May 3rd - 31st, 2017
In this new 5-week course you will learn how to sew knit fabrics using just your regular sewing machine - no serger required! You will learn about the different types of knit fabrics, and how to make the best choice for your project; how to prepare knits for sewing; the best tools and supplies for working with knits; sewing and finishing seams; and binding the edges of your knit garments. Using the sewing pattern provided to class members, you will complete your choice of a T-shirt, tunic, or dress. Participants must bring their own sewing machine with zig-zag capability, pins, and shears. Materials fee of $12 is due the first night of class, payable in cash or by check to the instructor. Kit includes the pattern and some basic supplies for working with knits. Participants should not purchase fabric until after attending the first class session. The class is suitable for anyone with some basic machine sewing experience.
Please note that supplies are not included in the price of the course. You are responsible for bringing your own sewing machine and supplies other than included in the sewing kit. Please make sure your sewing machine is in working order, since we do not have machines for rent.
Please read the full description and confirm the dates before signing up for the course. In the event that you must cancel, we accept cancellations up to one week before the start date of the class and you will receive a refund of 70% of the price of the course. After this time, you forfeit the cost of the class.
We do not schedule make‐up classes. If you are aware of conflicting dates, please let us know ahead of time and we can let you know if you will still be able to follow the course even if you have to miss a class.
You will receive an email with further instructions from the teacher before the beginning of the course. The email will be sent to the address associated with your PayPal account.
Cassie fell in love with sewing as a young girl and has carried the passion for stitching throughout her life. As much time as she can get away with she devotes to constructing her own clothes, either adapting commercial patterns or starting with a sketch of her own design. She's a self-described "selfish sewer," (Translation: "Don't come asking me to whip up your Halloween costume!") but will enthusiastically help others develop their sewing skills. She serves on the Board of the Young Designers Sewing Program and volunteers weekly with this non-profit after-school program helping kids learn to design and sew. Cassie is always learning something new about sewing. Currently, her aspirations include classic tailoring, vintage-style men's workwear, and sewing delicate lingerie.
