Basics of Garment Construction Course
$115 (includes sewing pattern)
September 11 - October 2, 2017
Mondays, 6:00 - 8:30 pm
In this 4-week course you will learn how to construct a garment by using a commercial sewing pattern. Learning how to sew with a commercial pattern is fundamental to learn how to sew clothing accurately and efficiently. It is recommended that you should be comfortable with using your sewing machine and have basic sewing skills to take this class. There will be plenty of opportunity to apply your fashion design instincts through choice of fabric and garment details. You will learn to choose the correct pattern size based on body measurements; how to read and interpret a pattern envelope; and how to prepare your fabric and pattern for cutting. Then, with plenty of guidance, you will follow all the step-by-step instructions in the pattern to complete your garment. By the end of the class you will have learned how to sew a garment from start to finish by applying a zipper, finishing a hem, confidence on how to read a pattern, understanding sewing terminology, using bias tape or facing to finish a garment neckline and armholes, and so much more.
The cost of the class includes the pattern and a few sewing notions necessary to complete the garment. You will be responsible for buying your fabric and bringing your sewing machine and supplies. Your instructor will send you an supply list at least 5 days prior to the beginning of class.
Please read the full description and confirm the dates before signing up for the course. In the event that you must cancel, we accept cancellations up to one week before the start date of the class and you will receive a refund of 70% of the price of the course.
